Krenek: Piano Music Vol. 1

Ernst Krenek was one of the most versatile compositional figures of the 20th century. As a student of Franz Schreker, his compositional practice initially sprang from musical Jugendstil, meandered through Expressionism and free atonality, and finally found a temporarily tranquil haven in twelve-tone music, following the example of Arnold Schoenberg. But even in the 1950s, serialism and electronics lured him onto new paths once again. And in exchange with Rilke, Adorno, and other intellectual giants of his time, Krenek was also an important commentator on contemporary history. It is almost unbelievable that Krenek's highly significant piano work has never been recorded to this day. And once again, it is the British Toccata label of Martin Anderson that makes this discovery possible. Hats off!!!
