Korngold: Operas / Songs / Orchestral Works

The music of Erich Wolfgang Korngold has experienced a remarkable renaissance in the last three decades. Korngold is no longer just the neglected genius, the unknown wunderkind of the 20th century. He has – at last – returned to the inner circle of the classical music repertoire. A wunderkind, first hailed with excessive acclaim and then forgotten in the harsh wind of post-war modernism. During his lifetime, he was certainly aware of being a forgotten composer and of likely remaining so – at least in his old homeland. But when the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, under the baton of Caspar Richter, made these recordings for the ASV label in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the thaw was well underway. Even today, the recordings provide a good overview of his output, beyond a handful of his greatest hits.
