Klengel / Becker / Tortelier: Cello Suites

The romantic repertoire for solo cello is expanded by the present CD with the first recording of two previously undiscovered, highly original and distinct works: Julius Klengel's Suite in D minor op. 56 and Hugo Becker's "Fantastische Suite" op. 14 "Aus dem Leben des Waldschrat". Both works from the early 20th century can not only be considered a late discovery of the compositional art of two leading cellists of their time, but also contribute significantly to the expansion of the canon of cello literature, like Paul Tortelier's strongly Bach-oriented Suite in D minor. This year we celebrate anniversaries with both composers: Hugo Becker (150th birth anniversary) and Paul Tortelier (100th birth anniversary).
