Folk music has been a source of inspiration for classical composers since the beginnings of the Western tradition. The violin, for example, has its own folk heritage, but since a piano cannot be carried from village to village, composers had to dig into their own musical roots to create a folk keyboard repertoire, with refreshing results most of the time. This album takes the listener on a journey across three continents, from east to west, and combines the possibilities of the modern concert grand piano with the immediacy of the folk originals.
