Killmayer: Sommersneige

Walter Killmayer was one of the few courageous individualists and mavericks among German composers of the 20th and 21st centuries. Killmayer died unexpectedly, one day before his 90th birthday on August 20 of this year. In Killmayer's rich oeuvre, the Lied stands out in particular: a genre with which the composer repeatedly engaged and to which he contributed several significant works. Above all, the Hölderlin Lieder established Killmayer's fame and led to further cycles based on the poems of Joseph Eichendorff and Georg Trakl. They can be heard on this new release in excellent interpretations by Markus Schäfer and Siegfried Mauser, who in turn form one of the leading duos in today's Lied scene. One could hardly wish for a better tribute to Killmayer!
