Kauder: Chamber Music Vol. 1

Moravian-born Hugo Kauder (1888-1972) was one of the many Jewish musicians who had to flee Vienna for American exile in 1938. Kauder’s music reflects his Viennese heritage, with his prolific chamber music output continuing the tradition of Brahms, not least in its emotional depth and dignity. These four sonatas, early works in which youthful passion and mature emotion are in balance, serve as the beginning of a series intended to rediscover the work of a composer who can rightly be described as another Viennese master. Karen Bentley Pollick plays violin and viola, and Daniel Glover can be heard on the piano. Bentley Pollick is one of the leading American musicians and has mastered not only the violin, viola, and Norwegian Hardanger fiddle but is also an accomplished pianist. Her repertoire covers many styles from the Baroque to contemporary music. Glover is also among the great musicians of the USA; he has performed in almost every state in the country, as well as in 25 other countries around the world.
