Janiewicz: Complete Violin Concertos

Feliks Janiewicz (1762–1848) was one of the most significant Polish violinists of his time. Following his successes in Paris and London, he became a celebrated virtuoso, composer, and a key contributor to British musical life. His five violin concertos rank among the most valuable achievements in Polish music at the turn of the 19th century and are also among the earliest examples of the brilliant style in European violin literature. This double album presents all of Janiewicz’s violin concertos, performed by Bartłomiej Nizioł, winner of the International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition. He is accompanied by the Wratislavia Ensemble, playing on period instruments under the direction of Andrzej Kosendiak. Of particular significance is Violin Concerto No. 2, which celebrates its world premiere recording on this release. The album restores Janiewicz’s music to its rightful place in the history of Polish and European music.
