Ingegneri: Missa Kyrie / Motets [The Teacher and His Disciples]

On this (already sixth) album, the Choir of Girton College, Cambridge, continues its pioneering work in exploring the music of the Italian Renaissance master Marc’Antonio Ingegneri (c. 1535/36–92). The program is dedicated to the musical depiction of the relationship between Christ and his disciples: twelve motets, symbolizing the twelve disciples, frame the five-part "Missa Kyrie Secundi Toni" and are all recorded here for the first time. These new discoveries confirm Ingegneri’s standing as one of the great masters of his time, who composed music that is as expressive and moving as that of his better-known contemporaries, Palestrina and Lassus—and just as distinctive.
