Description
If you are looking for new music with entertainment value, Benjamin Scheuer is sure to delight you. At first glance, his music surprises with funny and crazy sounds and playful elements. In the background, Scheuer shapes his compositions, which often consist of various miniatures, with great precision and complexity.
In the title-giving song cycle "Impulsive Lieder", Scheuer explores a different idea, sonority, or technique in each track, dissecting and exaggerating it. The use of the simplest electronic means gives the pieces a lo-fi aesthetic and often leads the listeners astray sonically.
Alongside three ensemble works, two solo pieces performed by Vanessa Porter and Nikolai Rosenberg complete the portrait, available in both audio and video formats. Here it becomes clear that Scheuer makes use of a wide range of sounds: a rubber chicken, kazoo, or slide whistle sound just as often as traditional sound-producing instruments. And last but not least, the human voice is at the center of his compositional interest, as in "Lachtherapie", in which the pianist astonishes with crazy nuances of laughter.
