Hynninen: Eurasian Bittern

On "Botaurus stellaris," Finnish harpist, composer, and visual artist Laura Hynninen creates all sounds in real time. Using a looper, she records her playing live, layering and manipulating the sounds without relying on pre-produced audio tracks. Supplemented by everyday objects and extended playing techniques, the result is a soundscape that is as unusual as it is multi-layered.

Laura Hynninen performs as a soloist and chamber musician in Europe, Japan, and the USA. She has served as principal harpist for the Finnish National Opera and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. In her solo projects, she combines music and visual art into a highly personal form of expression, for which she has received multiple national and international awards.
