Holmboe: String Quartets Vol. 3

Vagn Holmboe (1909-96) is considered one of the most important composers of string quartets of the 20th century with a monumental series of 21 quartets that demonstrate his unique metamorphosis method. Holmboe's lively and organic quartet compositions are deeply rooted in a Buddhist-inspired view of life, which led him, even though he kept it to himself, to consider all forms of life as part of a cosmic whole. The influence of folk music is just as important. This third volume of the acclaimed Nightingale String Quartet series shows Holmboe at the height of his creativity, when he was able to fully live out his musical metamorphosis.
