On “Righteous Rage,” Rebekah Heller explores the full range of possibilities of the bassoon—not only as a solo instrument, but also through careful and precise multitrack recordings as a percussive and generative sound source that suggests endless musical possibilities. Heller describes this album as her love letter to the bassoon and bassoonists. Although the album was produced as a solo project, she commissioned the works to create a profound and diverse repertoire for bassoon choirs that can be performed by countless voices, and to encourage others to continually expand this new collection.
Rebekah Heller is not only a bassoonist, but also a conductor, educator, composer, and curator. She has collaborated with hundreds of composers from around the world, including Steve Reich, to bring countless new works to life. She teaches various courses and subjects at the Mannes School of Music.
