Haydn: Sonatas

Denis Kozhukhin presents a new album of works by Joseph Haydn: "Sonatas," offering a fresh and insightful journey through the composer's piano repertoire. Haydn's piano sonatas are bursting with inventiveness, drama, and wit, and are in no way inferior to the brilliance of his symphonies and quartets. Kozhukhin returns to this repertoire, revealing its expressive depth and sparkling originality in a recital full of striking contrasts and character. From the cheerful Allegro of the early D major sonata, Hob XVI:4, to the restless intensity of the C minor sonata, Hob XVI:20, each work reflects Haydn’s inexhaustible inventiveness and subtle mastery of piano textures. As a prize winner at prestigious competitions, including the Queen Elisabeth Competition, Denis Kozhukhin has established himself as one of the most celebrated pianists of his generation. His previous albums have enjoyed great popularity with critics and the public alike, for instance "Grieg: Lyric Pieces & Mendelssohn: Songs Without Words" (2019, Gramophone Recording of the Month), "César Franck’s Symphonic Variations" (2020), and "Somnia" (2025, Gramophone Critic’s Choice for the top recordings of 2025).
