Haydn: Symphony No. 102 / Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6

Among the great conductors of the second half of the 20th century, Sergiu Celibidache is without question one of the most unusual figures. His musical and conducting talent, as well as his conscious development to the highest perfection, are undisputed. Like no other, Celibidache stood for the consistent rejection of the gramophone record and spliced studio recordings. He was more open to radio productions, in which concerts or studio recordings were recorded live. On September 17, 1959, Celibidache conducted a concert in the legendary studio of the Villa Berg with a sequence so typical of him, sharply contrasting, with a Haydn and a Tchaikovsky symphony.
