Gunnarsson: Clavis Metrica

The term “clavis metrica” refers to a catalog of meters with poems, helps to explain the structure of poems, and highlights the virtuosity of the poet. Inspired by ancient Icelandic poetry, Guðmundur Steinn Gunnarsson composed his own “clavis metrica”. As a flexible compositional surface, the meter can withstand many variations in terms of rhythm and melody while still remaining recognizable to the trained poetic ear. Guðmundur Steinn Gunnarsson is a pioneer of animated notation. His works are based on the intuitive exploration of organic rhythms that are not tied to a metronomic beat and transcend the boundaries of rhythmics and traditional notation. Ensemble Adapter is an experimental music group based in Berlin. Driven by its founders Matthias Engler (percussion) and Gunnhildur Einarsdóttir (harp), the ensemble focuses on collaborating with partners from diverse artistic backgrounds.
