Description
The radio recordings compiled on “Great Verdi Voices” were made between 1962 and 1984. All offer an impressive glimpse of the vocal presence of their renowned performers, their distinctive qualities, and their empathy for Giuseppe Verdi’s operatic music. Most are of historical significance, as they capture a singer at the absolute peak of their vocal powers or document otherwise unrecorded rarities from the repertoire—as, for example, in the case of Arleen Auger, who was hitherto scarcely known as a Verdi interpreter.
