Guitar Works

Andrea Orsi, a passionate ensemble guitarist, was increasingly inspired by the idea of creating an album that sheds light on the unique history of Bolognese guitar music. Inspired by the ideals of collective collaboration in the 1970s, he often found a deeper, more meaningful form of expression in collaborative music than in solo work, which he considered too individualistic – especially in contemporary music. In concerts for large ensembles, he regularly presented carefully selected solo pieces – partly brilliant works by young, up-and-coming composers, partly established compositions by renowned artists from Bologna's vibrant music scene.

He was particularly bothered by the fact that many of these masterfully prepared works merely served as opening or closing pieces at prestigious events such as the "Chigiana Novità" and were afterwards forgotten. Out of this sense of inadequacy, he made up his mind to bring together these rarely heard sounds. With the album, he wants to trace the fascinating development of the Bolognese guitar voice from the seventies to the present day – along an inspiring line of teachers and students who themselves became teachers.
