Gershwin: Rhapsody in Blue / An American in Paris / Porgy and Bess

The "Icons" series is dedicated to outstanding recordings from the history of recorded music that have set standards in terms of both artistry and sound engineering. It makes significant interpretations from the great historical catalogs accessible once again, while also focusing on the unique quality of the analog recording technology of their time.

This release brings together three key works by George Gershwin, representing different facets of his fusion of classical music and jazz. Leonard Bernstein can be heard as both pianist and conductor in "Rhapsody in Blue," as well as with the New York Philharmonic in "An American in Paris." Additionally, there are excerpts from "Porgy and Bess" featuring Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong—a long-legendary jazz interpretation of the opera in arrangements by Russell Garcia.
