Gál: Music for Voice Vol. 3

Whether in his hometown of Vienna, as director of the Conservatory in Mainz, or as an emigrant in Edinburgh, where he became a leading figure in the city's musical life, Hans Gál (1890–1987) championed choral singing as a means of involving people directly in making music: he founded and conducted numerous choirs and composed an extensive body of choral music. This third album of his choral music offers a lively cross-section of works for chamber choir, mixed voices, female voices and male choir, a cappella, with soprano solo, with piano and with chamber accompaniment. The works are performed by soprano Carolyn Sampson, the Pixels Ensemble and the Borealis Choir under the direction of Bridget Budge and Stephen Muir.
