Early Romantic Horn Sonatas

Franz Danzi, Ferdinand Ries and Nikolaus von Krufft created virtuos compositions with their sonatas for natural horn and piano, which with their exuberant dialogues between the horn and piano voices leave behind the strict measures of classical compositional rules and can be considered early works of a new era of art: Romanticism! The momentum and the richness of colors in the playing of Steinar Granmo Nilsen and Kristin Fossheim are based entirely on the early Romantic conviction: Music is the most royal of all arts.
