From Another World

"From Another World" is more than just an album title: it is an invitation to a journey through centuries, continents, and emotions. At its heart lies the encounter between two musical traditions: the elegance and structure of European classical music and the expressive rhythm of the Argentine tango. Bridging these worlds is the Guttman Tango Quintet, composed of musicians who, under the direction of violinist Michael Guttman, naturally draw from both traditions. In "From Another World," tango is not nostalgia. It is evolution. Just as Astor Piazzolla once brought the tango from the dance hall to the concert hall, Guttman enters into a dialogue with the classics that have shaped Western music. Each track on this album begins with a well-known theme (Beethoven, Mozart, Mahler, Dvořák, and others) and lets it wander to Buenos Aires. What emerges is neither parody nor pastiche, but a transformation. Recorded in January 2025 at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, this debut album captures a moment of creative alchemy: an ensemble of classical virtuosos surrendering to the irresistible pull of the tango.
