French Organ Music - From The Golden Age, Vol. 9

The series "French Organ Music from the Golden Age" is dedicated to French organ music from the age of Louis XIV to the French Revolution. It focuses on historical instruments and a repertoire that fascinates through its variety of tone colors, stylistic range, and sonic richness.

This ninth album was curated by David Ponsford, a proven specialist in keyboard music of the 17th and 18th centuries. His many years of work on the French organ tradition were already expressed in his book "French Organ Music in the Reign of Louis XIV". The present recording, featuring works by Claude Balbastre from the "Livre de Dijon", combines his intensive academic research with his interpretative experience, recorded on one of France's most significant historical organs, the Riepp/Schmid organ at the Cathedral of St. Bénigne in Dijon.
