Christian Gerhaher was Artist in Residence with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks in 2012/13 and performed solo parts from Schumann's Faust Scenes and Britten's War Requiem – both of which are available on CD from BR-KLASSIK. With the release of a recording of a chamber concert from his residency, Christian Gerhaher is now also represented as a lieder singer at BR-KLASSIK. And with what a dream cast! Gerhaher is supported here by his long-time duo partner Gerold Huber, but also by cellist Sebastian Klinger and violinist Anton Barachovsky. Grandiose! The exploration of the tension between folk and art song forms the thematic framework of Christian Gerhaher's finely tuned program, which he himself ambiguously titles "folkslied". The program offers many surprises: Haydn's Scottish and Welsh Songs, for example, are sung here in a German-language edition from 1927, with texts by Hermann Löns among others.
