Folk Music of China, Vol. 3

The unique NAXOS World Series, which aims to musically represent the entire folk song culture of all regions of China, is already in its third round. This time, the province of Yunnan is the focus of interest. It lies in southwestern China on the borders with Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos and is characterized by great geographical and cultural contrasts. No wonder: With almost 395,000 km², Yunnan is as large as Germany and the Netherlands combined. The impressive richness of Yunnan's folk song culture is hard to fathom. That is why this remarkable album is limited to the three ethnic groups of the Wa, Blang, and De'ang, who have a particularly artistic folk song culture.
