Description

The album brings together three works by Swedish composer Maria Lithell Flyg that engage with the themes of the environment, climate change, and biodiversity. At the center is "Ecce arbor!" ("Behold the tree!"), written for soprano Alexandra Büchel as well as Ivo Nilsson, Heléne Sikdal, Johannes Thorell, and Tora Thorslund.

The title track "Ecce arbor!" explores the loss of natural forest landscapes and the threat to biodiversity. The program is rounded out by "Okjökull – the enormous scale of loss happens slowly," which addresses climate change through the example of the Icelandic glacier Okjökull, which was officially declared dead, and "Caress (Smekning)," a work for two percussionists that provides a deliberately personal counterbalance.

With her compositions, Maria Lithell Flyg connects current societal issues with a multifaceted contemporary musical language and invites the listener to reflect on the relationship between humanity and nature.
