Fiocco: Small Motets Vol. 3

This third installment dedicated to Joseph-Hector Fiocco completes the portrait of one of the most important composers in 18th-century Brussels musical life. His music impressively combines French and Italian traditions into an elegant, expressive musical language. The program brings together six sacred motets for four to six voices with a period-appropriate instrumental ensemble. Marked by Marian devotion, the works showcase the central role of the human voice as well as Fiocco's inventiveness and compositional mastery. Since much of his oeuvre has been lost, this recording makes an important contribution to the rediscovery of an extraordinary chapter of Belgium's musical heritage.
