Ferrari: 6 Violin Sonatas Op. 3

In the second half of the 18th century, Domenico Ferrari (1722–1780) was by no means unknown. He was courted as a highly talented violin virtuoso as well as a gallant composer. As one of Giuseppe Tartini's best pupils, he easily secured positions at the Viennese and Württemberg courts in Stuttgart. After his debut in 1754 at the famous Concert Spirituel in Paris, he received the royal privilege to publish his works in France, where he also remained until his death. His Op. 3, presented on this CD, consisting of 6 sonatas for violin and basso continuo, was composed around 1760 and fascinates with a virtuoso musical language of late Baroque and Classicism. Artem Dzeganovskyi plays the baroque violin, Leonardo Gatti the baroque cello, and Sonia Hrechorowicz is the harpist.
