Fasch: Orchestral Works Vol. 4

This collection of modern premiere recordings featuring works by Johann Friedrich Fasch was recorded during a concert that opened the program of the International Fasch Festival 2023 in Zerbst, the city where he served as court music director. Tempesta di Mare's affinity for Fasch's orchestral music dates back to 2007, when the band received images of handwritten scores for several previously unpublished orchestral works held in the Dresden Library. Since then, they have explored, discovered, and performed Fasch's works every season, recording those that had not yet been recorded. This album is the fourth installment in this series of musical discoveries. What fascinates Tempesta di Mare about Fasch's music, in addition to its craftsmanship, expressiveness, inventiveness, and wit, is above all the composer's distinctive style. Many other Central European composers of his time were content if their music sounded like that of Vivaldi, Corelli, or Telemann. While these influences are clearly audible in his music, Fasch does not sound like any of them, nor like Bach, Handel, or other well-known contemporaries.
