Description

This album presents a program for solo violin with a focus on contemporary Icelandic music. The starting point is "Hugleiðing" (Meditation) by Karólína Eiríksdóttir, supplemented by commissioned works such as "Soliloquy" by John Speight as well as "Fragile Stillness" by Lilja María Ásmundsdóttir and Aria by María Huld Markan.

"Ea Fantasia" is also included as an original composition by the performer, inspired by "Alia Fantasia" by Nicola Matteis Jr. His bariolage playing technique, like the programmatic structure, points to central works of the repertoire, including Arvo Pärt's Fratres and the Chaconne by Johann Sebastian Bach.

The recording combines contemporary positions with historical references and places the solo violin in a broad cultural context.
