Dvořák: Rusalka (Teatro Real, Madrid 2020, Directed by: Loy)

Of the ten operas Antonín Dvo?ák wrote, only “Rusalka” has truly endured on international stages. There, however, the enchanting, deeply tragic story of the water nymph is considered a perennial favorite and a crowd-pleaser—naturally also at the Teatro Real in Madrid. The star of the November 2020 performances was Lithuanian opera singer Asmik Grigorian, who enchanted both audiences and critics with her voice and acting as a mythical creature in love with a prince. Ivor Bolton led the Orchestra of the Teatro Real with romantic warmth and beautifully nuanced tonal colors.
