Dupré: Piano and Chamber Works

Marcel Dupré (1886–1971) was the most famous French organist of his generation, who gave hundreds of concerts on his international tours. His compositions are now part of the standard organ repertoire. However, his piano and chamber music works have not received the same attention. They are distinctly French—there are points of contact with Chabrier, Fauré and Satie—but they follow their own surprising path and occasionally take on a ritualistic, even hypnotic character that gives them an oriental, quasi-minimalist flavor. Pianist Harold Fabrikant plays not only the piano, but also the organ and harpsichord, and in recent years has developed a great interest in music that had been unjustly forgotten. Violinist Philip Nixon has played with several of Australia's major orchestras, as has cellist Rosanne Hunt.
