Night has fallen

With his new album Die Nacht ist vorgedrungen, tenor Richard Resch invites listeners on a musical journey that makes the Christmas season audible anew, beyond kitsch and routine. At its heart is the symbolism of light and hope – with works from the early Baroque to the modern era, including music by Graupner, Briegel, Byzantine chants, and more recent arrangements such as Maria durch ein Dornwald ging and the Arabic-Christian Miladuka. The album takes its name from Jochen Klepper's stirring 1937 song, and the program concludes with an intimate version of Bonhoeffer's Von guten Mächten. Together with a small ensemble, a deeply personal soundscape was created in Berlin's Kaiser-Friedrich-Gedächtniskirche: vibrant, honest, and comforting. "This album is my way of taking Christmas seriously – as a message that all will be well," says Resch.
