The enigmatic Jean-Adam Guilain (1680-1739) left posterity a collection of suites imbued with majestic solemnity and subtle melancholy. The four rarely performed suites, which escaped the ravages of history, are heard here for the first time on the Grand Organ of the Chapelle Royale de Versailles. Guilain's solemn music alternates with the gentle melodies of Jacques Morel, forming a magnificent tableau in which organ, viola da gamba, and harpsichord complement each other harmoniously. Thomas Ospital and the Ensemble Saint-Honoré present these little-known works with great finesse.
