The Australian Horn

"The Australian Horn – Volume One: A Century of Chamber Music" begins a new series that focuses on rarely performed Australian chamber music for horn. The works of Frederick Septimus Kelly, George Marshall-Hall, Margaret Sutherland, Don Banks, and Peter Sculthorpe trace the development of Australian music from the early 20th century to the modern era, reflecting a wide variety of stylistic influences.

The program features several premiere recordings and offers a fascinating insight into a repertoire that is barely known even outside of Australia. From late Romantic soundscapes to musical modernism and the expansive soundscapes of Peter Sculthorpe, a multifaceted portrait of an independent national musical tradition emerges.
