Chaminade / Schumann / Peja?evi?: Piano Trios [In Her Hands]

Praised by BBC Music Magazine for their 'generous and warm-hearted, absolutely captivating playing' and nominated for a GRAMMY, the Neave Trio has established itself as one of the finest young ensembles of its generation. For their eighth album, they have once again chosen a program featuring works by female composers. Clara Schumann's piano trio, composed in 1846, was regarded as a great success by her friends and supporters (especially Johannes Brahms), but her own lack of self-confidence clouded her view of the piece. Dora Pejačević was intellectually curious from a young age and an avid reader, largely teaching herself to compose. She wrote her first piano trio (in D major) in 1905 (at the age of twenty), and the second followed in 1910, by which time Pejačević's musical language had already developed into her distinctively late Romantic style. Cécile Chaminade's Piano Trio No. 2 in A minor was published in 1887 and dedicated to the great French cellist Jules Delsart. Its successful premiere took place on February 4, 1886, at the Salle Érard. Chaminade performed the Trio in A minor regularly throughout the 1890s, earning significant critical acclaim.
