Cello Concertos

These BBC live recordings from 1962 were long thought to be lost. As part of a major purge, the BBC had destroyed the tapes. But thanks to the recordings made by the private collector and founder of the Lyrita label, Richard Itter, these valuable concert recordings have survived the test of time. And so these flawless radio recordings from Richard Itter's private archive are now being released officially for the first time: Jacqueline du Pré can be heard here in her very first public performance of Schumann's Cello Concerto! A music-historical document of the highest order! Mstislav Rostropovich guest-performed Dvořák's highly renowned Cello Concerto with the BBC and the Philharmonia Orchestra in 1962, conducted by Carlo Maria Giulini. This live recording is also available here for the first time. As a bonus, there is an interesting recording from Villa-Lobos's fifth Bachianas Brasileiras. Conclusion: Fascinating live documents in their first release by two of the greatest cellists of all time: collectors' hearts beat faster!
