Carré d'As - Musical Portraits

Four significant composers—François Couperin, Antoine Forqueray, Marin Marais, and Jean-Philippe Rameau—are united here in a kind of musical juxtaposition. Through a series of musical portraits, Myriam Rignol, Yoko Kawakubo, and Julien Wolfs reveal different aspects of their work. The pieces range from the understated elegance of Couperin and the expressive tonal language of Forqueray to the characteristic viol playing of Marais and the concise musical language of Rameau; each piece thus sketches its own musical profile. The ensemble Les Timbres interprets these works in a balanced, clear style. In the process, connections between the composers emerge, manifested in mutual allusions and dedications.
