Description
The Bavarian Radio Choir is united by a warm collaboration with the young British conductor Robin Ticciati. Together with the Bamberger Symphoniker and an internationally renowned group of soloists, they have created this new recording of Anton Bruckner's final mass composition—the great Mass in F minor. The circumstances surrounding the creation and premiere of this masterpiece by Bruckner reveal the musical life in Vienna that the composer himself often criticized: a performance of the Mass was rejected by the musicians of the Court Music Chapel in 1868 on the grounds that the Mass was unplayable. It was not until four years later that the premiere was finally realized with the opera orchestra, which Bruckner—who also conducted the premiere himself—had hired and paid for out of his own pocket. Today, the Mass is considered one of the major sacred works of the 19th century and one of the most demanding choral-symphonic works of late Romanticism. The singers of the Bavarian Radio Choir are undoubtedly in top form in this monumental work. The soloists are: Hanna Elisabeth Müller (soprano), Anke Vondung (alto), Dominik Wortig (tenor), and Franz Josef Selig (bass).
