Bruckner: The Symphonies - Edition of the Complete Versions - 11 Symphonies - 18 Versions

Markus Poschner’s acclaimed recordings of Anton Bruckner’s symphonies combine the versions identified in the authoritative Anton Bruckner Complete Edition as having been significantly revised and altered. They reflect the latest research findings and the most up-to-date editorial criteria, making this 18-CD set the definitive cycle of the Bruckner symphonies. From the embryonic “Student Symphony” in F minor to the glorious but unfinished Ninth, these works are full of endless fascination and profound emotion, revealing a composer who is firmly rooted in the Austrian tradition while simultaneously gazing into infinity.

Every release in this edition, recorded between 2021 and 2024, has been met with enthusiastic reactions from music critics who have spoken positively about Poschner’s approach. The essence of this approach is the willingness to reject performance traditions that run counter to the letter of Bruckner’s scores in order to reveal their explosive, radiant colors and immense intuitive and technical daring. The series was honored with the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) 2024 “Special Achievement Award”: “This complete edition of the Bruckner symphonies is an extraordinary project because it challenges our listening habits and our musical tradition. It combines musicological research with artistic excellence and brings together Austria’s leading musical institutions. In short, the typical Bruckner sound, and yet innovative.”
