Description

Despite the dominance of opera in 19th-century Italy, chamber music and symphonic music never disappeared from the musical world. The true ‘father of opera’, Marco Enrico Bossi, mastered instrumental effects and formal balance so thoroughly that he was able to enrich his music with instrumental inspiration from chamber music. The succession of Gioachino Rossini, Gaetano Donizetti, Vincenzo Bellini and Giuseppe Verdi, together with the new generations of Amilcare Ponchielli, Alfredo Catalani and Luigi Mancinelli, through to Giacomo Puccini, Lorenzo Perosi and Pietro Mascagni, created the conditions for the emergence and development of the chamber music genre. This was further reinforced by some chamber music and vocal influences that even opposed the dominance of bel canto and operatic singing. With this production, pianist Giulio Giurato and violinist Roberto Noferini complete the full publication of Marco Enrico Bossi’s chamber music.
