Benda / Bach: Weimar 1755

This recording project is dedicated to two composers who significantly shaped the music of central Germany in the 18th century: Johann Ernst Bach and Georg Anton Benda. Capella Jenensis and Ælbgut present their works side-by-side for the first time, exploring their stylistic characteristics and their influence on musical development in Thuringia. Alongside Bach's cantata "Mein Odem ist schwach," which was once attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach, the album contains rarely performed symphonies and vocal works. With newly edited scores, this music is brought back to life – a significant contribution to the rediscovery of an almost forgotten musical heritage. This is not the first collaboration between the orchestra Capella Jenensis, which specializes in early music, and the vocal ensemble Ælbgut. The album "Leipzig 1723" was awarded the German Record Critics' Award.
