Beethoven: Sonatas / Bagatelles [Appassionata]

Gianluca Cascioli plays three works by Ludwig van Beethoven on the fortepiano in “Appassionata”: Piano Sonata No. 23 in F minor, Op. 57, which gives the album its title, the late Sonata No. 30 in E major, Op. 109, and the six Bagatelles, Op. 126. The dramatic “Appassionata” is thus contrasted with the variations of the finale of Op. 109 and the concentrated character pieces of the Bagatelle collection. Cascioli bases his interpretation on original sources and contemporary accounts, exploring the interplay between the historical instrument and the musical score.
