Description

This new Beethoven symphony cycle with the Malmö Symphony Orchestra is conductor Robert Trevino's debut on Ondine. Trevino is a true "rising star" on the scene and has already made a name for himself with strikingly fresh, transparent, and lively interpretations. Trevino is currently the chief conductor of the Symphony Orchestra in Malmö and the music director of the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra. After studying with Seiji Ozawa, Michael Tilson Thomas, and David Zinman (himself a major interpreter of Beethoven), Trevino worked closely as an assistant to Leif Segerstam before advancing his career as chief conductor of symphony orchestras worldwide. The Beethoven symphonies were recorded in connection with the Beethoven Festival, which took place in Malmö in October 2019. It has been a long time since a young conductor dared to take on a complete Beethoven cycle; Trevino's unconstrained interpretations are fully convincing both artistically and sonically.
