Description

Beethoven's Second Symphony is – when listened to with an attentive ear – with its conceptual grandeur and sonic upheaval far more than just a precursor to the Eroica. The present live recording vividly documents the bold attempt to offer a different perspective on the supposedly familiar work. Preceding Beethoven is Brett Dean's "Testament", a contemporary orchestral piece that engages with Beethoven's music, his ideas, and his state of mind.
