Beethoven: Complete Works for Piano and Cello

Leon Fleisher once asked the pianist Margarita Höhenrieder: “Margarita, do you actually know that you are a great-great-great-grand-student of Beethoven?” After all, Beethoven was the teacher of Carl Czerny, who was the teacher of Theodor Leschetitzky, who taught Artur Schnabel, who in turn taught Leon Fleisher. Thus the circle closes for Margarita Höhenrieder as Beethoven’s great-great-great-grand-student, who, just like Julius Berger, has engaged with the works of Ludwig van Beethoven for virtually her entire musical life. Many interpretations by prominent music historians and performers of the last two hundred years flowed into their considerations before the two musicians dedicated themselves to interpreting the works for cello and piano.
