Beethoven / Mozart: Septets

Beethoven’s Septet, composed in 1799, marks a milestone on the path to his symphonic writing. With its mixed instrumentation of winds and strings, this large-scale chamber work functions as an orchestra 'en miniature'. At the same time, it established a new genre of ensemble music that numerous composers from Schubert to Brahms would go on to follow. Beethoven’s radiant and entertaining Septet combines logic with accessibility and offers an intellectual musical dialogue. The soloists of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra perform with great enthusiasm and high artistry. Mozart’s cheerful and sparkling "Nannerl Septet" serves as a perfect complement.
