Description

He is the “favorite conductor of the world’s leading orchestras,” and for a long time people had to wait for “his” Beethoven, but now Mariss Jansons’ first and—in her own words—only complete recording of the nine Beethoven symphonies is finally available on BR-KLASSIK. The recordings were made in November and December 2012 with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Munich and Tokyo. It was only in May that the Music Pen Club Japan honored him for the performances at Suntory Hall and for his own new, modern, and transparent vision of Beethoven. This 6-CD edition also includes symphonies commissioned by Mariss Jansons from six contemporary composers. The works, which relate formally, conceptually, or through the material used to a particular symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven, were intended as an introductory gesture or as a modern postscript to the performance of the respective symphonies in the concert hall.
