Although Haydn and Mozart contributed greatly to the development of the piano trio, Beethoven breathed new life and dynamism into the medium, expanded its scale and scope, and enriched its thematic and sonorous substance. His trios set the standard for the genre's further flowering in the 19th century, as demonstrated by the works of Franz Schubert, Felix Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, and Antonín Dvořák. The Shaham Erez Wallfisch Trio was founded in 2009 and consists of three of today's finest international instrumentalists. When Hagai Shaham and Raphael Wallfisch performed chamber music together at the Pablo Casals Festival in Prades, an immediate musical synergy developed. Arnon Erez joined them later that same year for trio concerts in Lucerne and the Netherlands, and the Shaham Erez Wallfisch Trio was founded.
