Barbara Strozzi - Listen, You Lovers!

The singer Barbara Strozzi is virtuosic, attractive, and extremely charming; the gentlemen of her refined audience are at her feet. She is known as the "Singing Venus." But she wants more: she regularly publishes her compositions, as many as no woman before her. And this in the 17th century! The new audio biography by Jörg Handstein recounts the fascinating life story of Barbara Strozzi: from her illegitimate birth, her childhood on the fringes of established society, the talent fostered by her adoptive father (who was also her biological father), to her successes as a singer and composer, on par with her contemporaries Rossi, Carissimi, and Cavalli. A Baroque story of emancipation and the first audio biography about a female composer in the BR Klassik series.
