Bach / Lee: Cantata (re)mixed for Four Hands

Johann Sebastian Bach's cantata music for piano four hands: "Cantata (re)mixed" gathers six new arrangements by Chiahu Lee, as well as György Kurtág's transcription of the sonatina from the cantata "Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit" BWV 106. Based on Bach's vocal music, this creates an imaginary cantata program for a single piano and two players.

The Duo Vershinina-Lee, featuring Yulia Vershinina-Mukhopadhyay and Chiahu Lee, combines different approaches to arrangement: from the multi-layered sound effects of the "Sinfonia" from BWV 29 and "Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme" to the concentrated intimacy of Kurtág's BWV 106. Chorales and arias are also not simply transferred in these new versions, but rethought in terms of their sonic possibilities on the piano.
